How can it be that this school year flew by so very quickly?? It seems like we just began first grade, and already I am composing the final blog post of the year! I want to thank all of you for sharing your awesome children with me! We had a fabulous year of learning, caring and fun!
Mr. Kramer and Mrs. Petersen planned a fun-filled Field Day on our last day of school! There were 10 different stations of excitement! I tried to capture as much as I could, while still participating with them in each station! No prizes were awarded - just tons of fun! Enjoy!
We began at the "Pizza Delivery" station. The kids raced in teams to 'deliver' two pizzas and a 2 liter around a cone.
Our next station was a chance for the kids to choose from three activities: sidewalk chalk, fireball (a fast moving jump rope activity) or Four Square.
Next was "Bucket Brigade". Two teams used cups to pass water from one bucket to another down the line. Surprisingly, nobody came away soaked, but all had fun!
Our next station was called Over/Under relay. First, the kids had to pass the ball over their heads to the next person in line. Then, pass the ball between their legs to the next person.
Our next stop was time on the playground (and in the shade!)
Our next activity was a Sponge Toss Relay. Teams used a sponges to soak up water from one bucket, toss it to a team member at another bucket, and squeeze the water into it.
Our next stop was an obstacle course relay...
Next in our Field Day events was an activity called Hoop-La. The children formed two lines and held hands. The object was to pass hoola hoops down the line without letting go of hands.
Our 9th station was called Big Clothes Relay. Teams had to dress in a BIG shirt, BIG shorts and put on BIG sunglasses. Then run down and around a cone and undress for the next person. There were many smiles and laughs for this one!
Our final station was called Dizzy Dean's Relay Race. Kids had to run down, grab a 'bat', put their forehead on the end and spin around five times and run back.
After our Field Day activities, the PTO treated us to ice cream sundaes! It was a nice break from the hot, sunny weather! Finally, all of the kids in the school gathered around the track to make the annual 'tunnel' to send off the fourth grade class to the middle school!
I am leaving you with a final class photo of the first grade class of 2016-17.
And... here's the 'funny one'!
Have a fantastic summer everyone! Thanks for a fantastic year of first grade!
