Fabulous Friday!

  Today I heard numerous kids say, "This is the BEST DAY EVER!" We enjoyed a feast for lunch! We are so thankful to Mrs. Klomparens and our wonderful PTO for providing the pizza and other goodies to eat and drink.  And thank you parents, for helping us collect and turn in the most Box Tops in the school in order to earn this awesome reward!

  In addition to our pizza party, it was OUR turn to use the sledding hill for lunch recess!  AND... we won the POWER POP reward too!  Students earn Power Pops from any adults in the building (except their own teacher) for making positive choices such as working hard, helping others, picking up trash on the playground, and much more.  Each classroom turns in their Power Pops to the office on Fridays and the top Y5-1 classroom, and 2-4 classroom earns an extra recess and Blow Pop sucker from Mrs. Klomparens!  You should've heard the cheers in our room when Mrs. Klomparens announced the winners on Friday afternoon!

  Finally, the kids won the "Mrs. Ferrell reward" as well!   In order to encourage the kids to make a positive difference in our school, we have our own classroom goal to earn 200+ Power Pops each week.  That is not easy by any means.  The kids have only reached that goal once before.  When the goal is met, we list reward choices on our board and vote.  The top choice becomes the reward.  The last time they earned the "Mrs. Ferrell reward", they voted for GUM DAY.  Each student was given four different flavors of bubble gum to chew whenever they chose that day.  This week they voted to have an "IPad Recess".  Some time this week, we will have a 15-20 minute time to explore games and apps on an IPad.  Many children enjoy playing Skoolbo, Cool Math for Kids, IXL and other games of their choosing.  They rarely (if ever) have the opportunity to play whichever games they want to play.  What's even more amazing is the fact that they earned over 200 Power Pops in only 4 days of school due to our snow day!  What a great bunch!
