WEB Moms Sundae celebration

We had some fantastic WEB moms helping us this year!  These wonderful ladies gave up hours of their own time this year to come in and read with every first grader!  Without their help, your children would not have become the awesome readers they are today!  Your children came in reading very simple, short books.  With your help at home, and knowing that every day a WEB mom would be listening to them read and praising their efforts, their reading skills grew and grew!   I owe them so much for partnering with our class for WEB from October through April!  Thank you to each of you from the bottom of my heart as well as these awesome first graders!

Today these wonderful moms returned to celebrate our awesome readers!  They brought in the fixings for ice cream sundaes!  Wow!  The kids were so excited and it was the perfect way to end our day!  Each child also was awarded a reading certificate from the WEB moms for all their hard work this year!

Now it's your turn to keep the ball rolling!  Please don't let all this hard work slide this summer!  Your children should try to read a little bit every day!  A great way to relax and wind down after a day of play is to read for 15-20 minutes in a quiet place or in bed!  Don't forget to have your child tell you what they read to keep their listening and comprehension skills strong!  If you do this, your child will be better prepared to enter second grade a strong reader!

Thank you again WEB moms!  Enjoy the photos of our celebration everyone!

Math Wizards

Well, we have TWO MORE students who have mastered all 19 levels of Flash Card sets!  Congratulations to Ethan and Jayden!  They have been working hard at school and at home practicing their math facts!  These two will join the other students who have accomplished this amazing feat and enjoy 'vacation' when everyone else takes their 1-minute timed test on Wednesdays!

MORE exciting news!

Two more students have hit milestones this week!  First, Keira has mastered her subtraction facts from 10 on Xtra Math!  She has now completed BOTH addition facts to 10 AND subtraction facts from 10!  She now has the opportunity to try out multiplication!  Congratulations Keira!

Next, as you are aware, we have been working on our math fact strategy flash card facts weekly since January.  The goal is to pass 13 sets by answering 12+ correct answers in one minute.  When those are completed, there are 6 extension sets for those who are able to move on.  We've had a few children master ALL 19 sets, and our newest student to do so is Ki Scott!  He joins the others 'on vacation' during our weekly one-minute timed tests on Wednesdays!  Congratulations Ki!

We have 20 school days left! Many children are very close to mastering either addition or subtraction facts on Xtra Math! You can help at home by having your child visit Xtra Math daily for extra practice!  In class, the kids visit Xtra Math 2-3 times per week.  In addition, there are 4 Wednesdays remaining to test math fact strategy flash cards.  These come home in the Friday Folder, so please check for them and practice at home as well.  There are several children who have a good chance to complete all 19 sets before June 10!

Thank you for your support at home!  I can honestly say that I've never had so many students reach these math milestones in my teaching career.  Thank you for sharing them with me this year! It's amazing the progress that has been made in one school year!
