Butterfly/Moth Mania!

Our week ended on a high note!   The Monarch caterpillars that were mailed to us are changing!   We began with six tiny caterpillars.  Only two survived, but a big change happened today!   We came in this morning to one of them hanging upside down in a "J" shape - a sure sign that it would soon become a CHRYSALIS!   Sure enough, while we were in InfoTech class, the transformation happened!   It is hanging on the bottom of a leaf looking beautiful, green and perfect!   We think the second one may change today as well!   We have to wait about ten days to watch the butterfly emerge from the chrysalis.

On another note, Mrs. Smith, our Speech/Language teacher, came in and asked if we were studying butterflies and moths.  She had found a very large one on the window near the gym entrance.  So, we captured it so we could see it up close and personal.  Of course we will let it go before the weekend, but it sure is fun to see the details up close.

We completed a very cool Venn diagram this week comparing butterflies to moths.  There are differences and your children have become experts with their knowledge!  We have even found a couple of instances where authors of fiction picture books have written wrong information about characters in their books!   The children knew right away when the misinformation was shared!

Enjoy the pictures of our exciting day!
