Your children will bring home their final timed test results today along with the recording sheet showing the date each strategy was passed. In addition, I've attached a note listing all 19 strategies with the associated facts! Please make sure your child continues to work on their math facts over the summer! You can have them visit Xtra Math as well as make flash cards for each strategy. Don't forget to have them take 1-minute timed tests as well. You can create your own timed test sheets at mathfactcafe.com. Please don't let the 'Summer Slide' take away all the progress made this year! Second grade will be much easier if your child keeps these skills strong going in!
In other math news, TWO more students earned certificates from Xtra Math this week! Jayden mastered her 100 addition facts and Logan mastered his 100 subtraction facts! In order to master each fact, they had to correctly type in the answer within 3 seconds on three consecutive progress quizzes! Their progress shows on a grid so that they can see their progress. After a progress quiz, students practice using a 'Race the Teacher' feature on the program. You can visit Xtra Math at home this summer to keep those math facts strong for second grade! I will get weekly updates to see if your child is visiting the site and making progress. If your child earns a certificate for mastering a math operation, I will email you a pdf of the certificate and you can sign for me! Better yet, I will meet your child for ice cream at The North Pole as a reward for working hard in the summer!
Thank you for supporting math fact practice at home! 100 percent of our class mastered + and - facts to and from 5 on the 1st grade Delta Math screener, and 21/23 students mastered + facts to 10 on the 2nd grade screener! Finally, 18/23 mastered their - facts from 10 on the 2nd grade screener!
