Math Whiz Kids!

As you know, we began doing math flash card timed tests weekly in January.  Each set is based on a different math strategy.  They usually alternate between addition and subtraction facts.  We began by taking the first 6 levels the first week.  Based upon their results, they began practicing flash cards at home and taking a one-minute timed test the following Wednesday.  If 12 or more facts were correct within the minute, the next set was given.  If not, the same set was sent home to practice and try again the following week.

The goal is to 'pass' the first 13 levels, but there are 6 extension levels for those who are ready.  Well, this week we had TWO students pass ALL 19 LEVELS!  They earned a certificate, mechanical pencil, and their photo on our classroom blog!

Logan and Keira have passed all 19 levels of flash card tests since January!

They have accomplished an amazing feat!  Both of these students put in extra time and practice at home visiting Xtra Math, Skoolbo and IXL, and practicing their math flash cards!  They also work hard at school of course.  Many other children are creeping closer to this accomplishment as well!

Congratulations to Logan and Keira!  They have earned the right to be 'on vacation' while the rest of our class takes their weekly timed tests on Wednesdays!
